Shipping

Shipping companies require regular monitoring of ship metal thickness to assess corrosion levels and ensure the safety of the ship and her crew.

Cygnus provides the ideal instruments for ship surveys. Cygnus has a long history of working closely with ship surveyors ensuring the gauges are ideally suited to this environment. George Edes, the founder of Cygnus Instruments, was a ship surveyor and it was this very application which drove him to develop the Cygnus gauges. The multiple echo technique, simplicity of use and ruggedness of the gauges were specifically developed to suit ship survey needs. We continue to work closely with ship surveyors. The Multiple Echo technique is approved by most major Classification Societies.

See IACS document covering requirements for ultrasonic thickness measurement.

  • The Cygnus 1 Intrinsically Safe provides a solution to measurements in Explosive Atmospheres.
  • The Cygnus 2 Hands Free is ideal for Rope Access or Belt Mounted work with its end-on display.
  • The Cygnus 4 General Purpose is a good all-round general purpose thickness gauge with a backlit LCD display.
