Ultrasonic Thickness Gauges

Cygnus Ultrasonic Thickness Gauges all measure using the Multiple-Echo Technique for accurate error-checked metal thickness measurements.  This uses multiple pulses, providing verified thickness readings and allowing coatings up to 20 mm thick to be ignored.

Our range now includes several PLUS+ models which feature additional measuring modes:

  • Echo-Echo mode uses two sound pulses, ideal for improved detection of heavy back wall corrosion and pitting while ignoring coatings up to 1 mm
  • Single-Echo mode uses one sound pulse, ideal for measuring extreme front face or back wall corrosion and pitting through uncoated surfaces.

This provides added flexibility and increases even further the scope of thickness gauging applications Cygnus thickness gauges can be used in.

From the Intrinsically Safe thickness measuring gauge designed for use in explosive atmospheres to the ROV mountable gauge, the Cygnus product range has an ultrasonic thickness gauge designed for any application and industry – including the toughest of environments.

ROV Probe Handlers

When using one of the ROV Mountable Thickness Gauges it is often useful to mount the probe into a Probe Handler.  We produce three types which all help to protect the probe face when it is being flown up to the surface being measured and assist in keeping it as still as possible in this environment where everything is constantly moving.

Ultrasonic Probes / Transducers

All Ultrasonic Thickness Gauges are used with a probe also know as a transducer and a cable.  The probe face is placed on the material being tested and within the probe an element vibrates to generate ultrasound.  A single crystal probe is used for taking measurement in Multiple-Echo mode and a twin crystal probe is used for Echo-Echo and Single-Echo modes.

Accessories

Cygnus supply a range of accessories to assist with thickness gauge inspections.  These include couplant, calibration and test blocks, tools for any surface preparation required and also a manual pit gauge for measuring the depth of pits.
