Commercial ships are required to have regular thickness gauging surveys for general maintenance and insurance purposes, including the 5 year special survey.
Cygnus manufactures instruments which are ideal for the shipping industry and has a long history of working closely with ship surveyors ensuring the gauges are well suited to the difficult inspection conditions inside a ships hull.
The multiple-echo technique standard on all Cygnus gauges is approved by the majority of Classification Societies. The IACS document covering requirements for ultrasonic thickness measurement states that for through coat inspection multiple-echo should be used.
Both the Cygnus 2 and Cygnus 2+ Hands Free gauges have end-mounted displays and are specifically designed with ship hull surveys in mind. Using the supplied neck-strap or optional belt-clip, once the gauge is calibrated, the surveyor can just concentrate on taking the readings.
The Cygnus 2PLUS and 4PLUS offers additional echo-echo and single-echo measuring modes to assist where there is particularly extreme corrosion.
The Cygnus 4+ General Purpose features a very simple to use menu and a large colour LCD display which can be viewed in all lighting conditions. While A-scan display helps verify measurements, the sequential data logging allows thickness readings to be easily recorded and later transferred to a computer or spreadsheet for reporting.
